Excel is flexible, and that same flexibility is why so many centres end up managing sensitive data in spreadsheets that started out as something temporary. The problem shows up when several people edit the same file, or when that file should have a level of protection a spreadsheet simply can't offer.
Signs it's already fallen short
- Several versions of the same file circulating between different people.
- Health data stored unencrypted, in a file anyone with access to the computer can open.
- Formulas that someone wasn't meant to touch, touched by mistake.
- Information that should be connected — shifts, incidents, history — living in separate files.
Migrating doesn't mean starting from zero
The data you already have in Excel isn't lost: it can be carried over into the new system instead of starting to record from scratch. It's common to spend some initial time on that migration, but it's time you recover quickly once the team stops depending on loose files.
A gradual change, not overnight
You don't need to migrate the whole centre at once. You can start with one area — clinical records, for example — and keep the rest in your current system while the team gets used to the new program.
At Resiges we support that migration process, so the change doesn't mean stopping the centre's daily work while data is carried across.
