Switching to a new management program, or adopting one for the first time, is a decision that will stay with your centre for years. It isn't just about price: you need to look at what it really covers, how it behaves day to day, and what happens if something goes wrong.
What areas it should cover
A care home doesn't just manage clinical records. Complete software should also cover staff (shifts, clock-ins, incidents), family communication and the centre's own documentation, not only the clinical side. If you have to combine several separate tools to cover all of this, that's a sign the software falls short.
Questions worth asking before deciding
- Where is the data stored, and who has access to it?
- How are backups made, and how often?
- Is support a person you can talk to, or a ticket that waits in a queue?
- Does it work if the centre's internet connection fails, or does it depend entirely on it?
- Can you adapt your own forms, or only use the templates it ships with?
Local, cloud, or both
Some centres prefer to keep everything installed locally, without depending on an internet connection, while others need access from several devices or locations. The right answer isn't always the same: it depends on how your team works today and how much you want to grow tomorrow.
